Two-way star Travis Hunter of the Colorado Buffaloes won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday.
It was a memorable evening for Hunter and his family. However, much of the talk from the night has revolved around Hunter’s fiancée, Leanna Lenee.
Several clips from the trophy presentation as well as Hunter’s post-ceremony engagements show Lenee appearing detached and downright miserable at times.
When Hunter was announced as the winner of the Heisman, Lenee had to be told by Colorado head coach Deion Sanders to stand up and applaud.
Afterwards, at a celebratory meet-and-greet, Hunter was posing for pictures with fans as Lenee sat on a nearby couch.
The two appeared to have a tense conversation in between photos. At one point, Lenee said: “What do you want me to do? … I just sit here then.”
While no one knows any details about what the two could have been going through, Lenee’s actions raised a few eyebrows to say the least.
Unsurprisingly, clips of her awkward behavior went viral on social media and people had plenty to say…
Hunter addressed the situation during a Twitch livestream, criticizing the negative attention directed at Lenee and shutting down claims about trouble in their relationship.
“You ain’t never had no girl so why are y’all talking about me?” Hunter said. “Find someone else to talk about… Go talk about your girl. Go find a girl. Go find a life.
“Stop worrying about what I got going on. I know what I got. My girl been with me for five years. Y’all are just now starting to talk about me… y’all go do something else with y’all life.”
Hunter revealed that Lenee had been deeply affected by the criticism, sharing that she became emotional and “cried herself to sleep” after the event.
“Y’all hate on me then you go hate on my girl,” he continued. “I feel the same thing that she feels. We’re inseparable. We’re with each other. If she’s hurting I’m hurting.
“She’s still sleeping. She’s lump. You know when you’re hurt you just cry yourself to sleep and you be gone. She’s drunk OD amount tonight for no reason.”
Hunter also explained that Lenee’s apparent unhappiness stemmed from a misunderstanding about family plans they were trying to coordinate that evening.
“I don’t want her to go to sleep sad,” he said. “It’s hard on me because I can’t even help her.”
Criticism of the couple isn’t new. Lenee previously revealed during an Instagram Live session with Hunter that she wasn’t initially attracted to him when they first met.
Despite that, their bond has grown stronger, with the couple going public with their relationship in 2022 and getting engaged in February 2023.
Again, no one knows what the two could have been going through. Also, it’s never fair to think you can fully assess a situation by a 5-second clip on the internet.
It’s a shame that this has overshadowed the accomplishment of Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy (at least to a small degree).
