The Boston Red Sox’s season seems to have hit another bump in the road, with one more setback to add to their challenging year. Unfortunately, pitcher Kutter Crawford is likely sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an unusual wrist injury.
Manager Alex Cora shared that Crawford’s right wrist injury happened off the field in what he described as a genuine accident. While Cora opted to keep specifics under wraps, he made it clear that Crawford wasn’t involved in any reckless behavior. “I’m not going to get into details,” Cora explained, adding that, to the organization, “it’s just an accident. It stinks that it happened this way.”
Crawford hasn’t made a mound appearance in 2025, thanks to a knee issue that kept him out of action. However, there had been hopes for his return. In 2024, Crawford’s record showed a rather unlucky streak as he led the American League in losses, going 9-16, despite a 4.36 ERA over 33 starts. Although the number of losses sticks out, those outings piled up a respectable 183 innings for the Red Sox, suggesting he was a durable presence in their rotation.
This latest injury comes at a time when the Red Sox rotation has faced its share of struggles, with Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello standing as exceptions in an otherwise tough year for Boston’s starters. The absence of Crawford means the hope for a midseason boost from his return is now dashed. Without him, the Red Sox will have to look elsewhere for stability, as they continue to battle through what is proving to be a trying season.
