The Jacksonville Jaguars are closing in on their decision for the No. 5 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. They’ve narrowed their board to just four players — with Boise State star Ashton Jeanty being one of them.

Jeanty’s inclusion is no surprise. One of the most explosive and complete running backs in the country, Jeanty would be an immediate difference-maker for a Jaguars offense still searching for an identity on the ground. After watching Travis Etienne battle through injuries and inconsistencies, Jacksonville could benefit from bringing in a workhorse like Jeanty who can elevate the entire offense.

In 2024, Jeanty proved he wasn’t just a good player — he was a dominant one. He racked up over 1,600 rushing yards and 22 total touchdowns while averaging more than six yards per carry, showcasing a rare combination of power, balance, and breakaway speed. Beyond his rushing prowess, Jeanty also displayed elite receiving ability out of the backfield, something the modern NFL covets more than ever.

For the Jaguars, Jeanty’s skill set fits perfectly into what they need. He’s a true three-down back who can handle a heavy workload, catch passes, pick up blitzes, and bring toughness to an offense that often lacked it last season. Pairing Jeanty with Trevor Lawrence would take pressure off the young quarterback, giving Jacksonville a legitimate weapon to control the tempo of games and open up the passing attack.

Another big factor is Jeanty’s mentality. Known for his relentless work ethic and leadership at Boise State, he’s exactly the kind of tone-setter head coach Doug Pederson wants in his locker room. After a frustrating 9-8 campaign that ended without a playoff appearance, the Jaguars need more players who bring both production and an edge — and Jeanty checks both boxes.

While there are still several directions Jacksonville could go at No. 5, targeting Ashton Jeanty would be a bold move that sends a clear message: they’re serious about building a complete, physical, and dynamic offense. If he is the pick, don’t be surprised if Jeanty quickly becomes one of the biggest young stars in the NFL — and a fan favorite in Duval County.
