Nebraska swept Minnesota by scores of 17-2 and 11-2 over the weekend of April 18-19, and the result pushed the Huskers to the top of the Softball America rankings for the first time in 2026. At 36-6 overall and 17-1 in the Big Ten, Nebraska has quietly assembled one of the most complete résumés in the country.

The dominant scores against Minnesota were not flukes. Nebraska has been operating at this level for weeks. The program has now completed five Big Ten series sweeps this season, posting a 17-1 conference record that is among the best in any conference in the sport.

A Resume That Demands Respect

The Big Ten record alone would make Nebraska a national seed candidate. But head coach Rhonda Revelle’s team built its case with non-conference wins that go far beyond conference play. Nebraska defeated Texas, LSU, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and South Carolina in non-conference matchups this season — a collection of wins that reads like a preview of the postseason bracket.

Those kinds of victories tell evaluators that Nebraska can beat the best programs in the country, not just dominate within a conference. When the selection committee sits down on May 10 to place national seeds, the Huskers’ non-conference performance will be a significant factor in the conversation.

From No. 4 NFCA to No. 1 Softball America

The gap between Nebraska’s NFCA ranking (No. 4) and Softball America’s assessment (No. 1) reflects how different organizations weigh the evidence. The NFCA poll relies on coaches’ ballots that tend to weight traditional program prestige and national visibility. Softball America’s rankings incorporate deeper statistical and résumé analysis.

Nebraska earned 4 first-place votes in the NFCA Week 12 poll — matching the total earned by No. 2 Texas Tech — which suggests that at least some coaches agree with the Softball America assessment. The Huskers are knocking on the door of broader national recognition, and results like the Minnesota sweep continue to push that door open.

The Revelle Factor

Coach Rhonda Revelle has built Nebraska’s program into something sustainable and elite. The Huskers are not a one-year wonder — they have the depth, pitching, and organizational culture to compete at this level consistently. Revelle’s teams are known for their composure and their ability to execute in high-leverage moments, which is exactly what postseason softball demands.

Nebraska is not asking for respect anymore. The program has earned it, and the No. 1 ranking in Softball America is the recognition that reflects what has been happening in Lincoln all season.

What’s Next

Nebraska has a midweek game at Omaha scheduled before returning to Big Ten action for the final push of the regular season. Every win over the next three weeks strengthens the Huskers’ case for a national top-4 seed and hosting rights at an NCAA Regional. If Nebraska continues to play at this level through the final week of the regular season and into the Big Ten Tournament, the program will be in the national seed conversation when May 10 arrives. The question is not whether Nebraska deserves a national seed — the question is how high the Huskers can go.
