Forty-six years of LSU softball. Thousands of at-bats. Hundreds of players. And in all that time, no one had ever hit for the cycle.
Kylee Edwards ended that streak on April 3.
In LSU’s 16-4 win over Missouri at Mizzou Softball Stadium, the junior infielder reached base four times in four different innings — and in four different ways. Home run in the second inning. Single in the third. Double in the sixth. Triple in the seventh. Four-for-six. Four RBIs. History.
A Season Already Making Its Mark
Edwards came to LSU as one of 11 newcomers on the 2026 roster, transferring from Mississippi State. She arrived with a reputation as a dangerous offensive player. She has lived up to it emphatically.
Heading into the Missouri game on April 3, Edwards had already homered in six consecutive games — a remarkable stretch of power production for any college player, let alone one adjusting to a new program. The cycle game extended that consecutive-game homer streak to seven, though the larger achievement was the historic accomplishment itself.
She is a 5’6″ infielder from Waldron, Indiana — a quiet background for one of the SEC’s most explosive offensive players. On Friday, the numbers spoke loudly enough.
The Game Itself
LSU’s 16-4 win was a series-clinching effort against Missouri. The Tigers arrived needing a win to secure the three-game set, and they delivered it in convincing fashion. Edwards was the story, but the margin of victory speaks to how dominant LSU’s offense was throughout the afternoon.
The cycle came in proper order if you rearrange by difficulty: first the home run, then the single, then the double, then the triple — the hardest hit to come by in modern softball, requiring a gap shot and the legs to stretch it. Edwards beat the throw to third and the stadium understood immediately what had happened.
Her teammates met her on the field. The moment was recorded. The history was made.
What It Means for LSU
LSU is currently ranked No. 22 in the NFCA poll and competing in the SEC — one of the toughest conferences in college softball. Edwards’ performance provides a tangible reminder of how dangerous this team can be on offense when the lineup is clicking.
With the NFCA Week 9 poll set to drop Tuesday, April 7, LSU will be looking to maintain or improve their standing in a conference that includes Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, and Florida — all ranked in the top 10. A cycle-driven series win does not hurt the argument for staying in the conversation.
What’s Next
Edwards and LSU return to action this week in SEC play. The NFCA Week 9 poll releases Tuesday, April 7, at 10 AM ET. After 46 years of the LSU softball program, the record book now has Kylee Edwards’ name in it — and she is still a junior with two more seasons ahead of her.
