In a dazzling start to her Texas Tech career, junior second baseman Mia Williams has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week and Softball America’s Player of the Week following an explosive opening weekend for the Red Raiders.

Williams, a transfer from Florida, powered Texas Tech to a perfect 6-0 record with a .688 batting average and 1.625 slugging percentage over six games. She racked up 11 hits, including six doubles and three home runs, while driving in 13 runs and scoring 12 herself—all while playing error-free defense with a perfect 21-for-21 fielding mark.

The accolades, announced on February 10, 2026, highlight Williams’ immediate impact on a Red Raiders squad that ascended to No. 1 in the NFCA/GoRout Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll after their dominant start. Texas Tech outscored opponents 64-10, with Williams accounting for a significant portion of the offense, including 25 of those runs through her hits, RBIs, and scoring.

Key moments included a 3-for-3 performance with four RBIs, two doubles, and a home run in her debut against McNeese, followed by a two-run homer against North Texas and additional multi-hit games that helped secure run-rule victories. In a gritty 3-2 win over then-No. 11 Texas A&M, Williams delivered a first-inning homer and a game-winning RBI double.

Prior to joining Texas Tech, Williams spent two seasons at Florida, where she started all 65 games in 2025, hitting .335 with 19 home runs (fifth in the SEC), 52 runs, 44 RBIs, and 10 doubles. She earned NFCA Second Team All-American honors, All-SEC Second Team, and SEC Player of the Week in April 2025, among other accolades.

Her arrival bolsters a Texas Tech team coming off a Women’s College World Series finals appearance in 2025, now eyeing a national title in 2026. With Williams leading the charge at the plate and in the field, the Red Raiders have set a formidable tone early in the season.

As conference play approaches, Williams’ hot start positions her as a key player to watch in the Big 12 and beyond. 🥎
