Fans Devastated Over Heartbreaking Lee Corso News

Legendary college football analyst Lee Corso is officially retiring after his storied run with ESPN’s College GameDay, the network announced this morning.

The 89-year-old Corso, who has been a fixture on Saturday mornings for generations of college football fans, made the tough decision to step away from the role he’s loved so very much.

“After 38 incredible years, Lee Corso is retiring… For multiple generations, Coach has been the face of our Saturday mornings and the sport we love… Our friend, our coach, our heart… LC, you will forever be a College GameDay legend!” College GameDay posted on X.

Corso will appear on the show one final time during Week 1 of the 2025 college football season (August 30).

Throughout the years, Corso has shared the College GameDay stage with a rotating panel of college football’s most respected voices.

Most recently, he worked alongside Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Rece Davis, and Desmond Howard.

Corso joined GameDay during its very first season in 1987 and has been a constant presence ever since, bringing both insight and entertainment to the program – particularly through his signature headgear picks.

Before stepping into the television spotlight, Corso built a lengthy career on the field and the sidelines.

He played quarterback for Florida State from 1953 to 1957, later beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater.

He would go on to serve on coaching staffs at Maryland and Navy, before becoming the head coach at Louisville in 1969.

He led the Cardinals until 1972, then spent a decade as the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers from 1973 to 1983.

From quarterback to coach to beloved broadcaster, Corso’s impact on the sport has spanned over seven decades – and his influence on College GameDay will endure long after his final pick.
