Wisconsin Loses ANOTHER Wide Receiver to the Portal

As the spring transfer portal window opens on Wednesday, the Wisconsin Badgers find themselves facing disruptions in their wide receiving corps. In a notable development, wide receiver Quincy Burroughs has announced his intent to enter the transfer portal. This news marks the second time in a single day that a Badgers receiver has opted for a change, as redshirt freshman Mark Hamper, who recently joined the team from Idaho, also made his intentions known.

Burroughs, a redshirt sophomore, arrived at Wisconsin as part of head coach Luke Fickell’s 2023 recruiting class after redshirting his freshman year at Cincinnati. He has spent the past two years acclimating to his role with the Badgers. During his redshirt freshman season, Burroughs participated in all 13 games primarily on special teams, showcasing his versatility despite only recording four catches for 30 yards. Last season saw him make an appearance in nine games, but he managed to secure just one reception.

Though Burroughs was starting to make his mark in the receiver rotation last offseason, he faced challenges with consistency, as noted by former wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton. As the offseason progressed, Burroughs was involved in a competitive receiver rotation, working alongside various talents including Vinny Anthony, transfer Jayden Ballard, Chris Brooks, Tyrell Henry, and Joseph Griffin on the outside.

With the transfer portal now open, the Badgers must navigate these changes and the implications they bring to their receiving game. The landscape is shifting, and Wisconsin’s coaching staff will need to adapt swiftly to fill the gaps left by players looking for new opportunities.
