Arch Manning Admits Alabama Loves Football More Than Texas

Ever since Arch Manning committed to the Texas Longhorns in 2023, he has been one of the most talked-about names in college football.

As the grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, expectations have followed him at every step.

Ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2023 class, Manning had his pick of powerhouse programs, ultimately choosing Texas over Alabama, Georgia and others.

Now, with Quinn Ewers declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, Manning is poised to take the reins as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback next season.

His rise to the top of the depth chart has only fueled the excitement surrounding his career.

Many Texas fans actually preferred him to start over Ewers down the stretch last season. Now, Manning’s time has finally arrived.

Despite the enthusiasm, Manning recently opened up about some of the challenges that come with his high-profile status.

In an online interview with Sprung, Manning admitted that his fame sometimes limits his ability to live a normal college experience – especially in football-obsessed towns.

Interestingly, Manning hinted that Tuscaloosa is more intense than Austin when it comes to football fans.

“It’s like my buddies who go to Alabama, they want me to come visit. I don’t know if that’s the best idea – Tuscaloosa,” Manning said.

“But Austin is nice. You can go to parts of it where you can kind of get away, and nobody knows about football. You’re just another guy.”

Manning ultimately chose Texas in large part due to his connection with head coach Steve Sarkisian. Even before making his decision, he spoke highly of Sark’s ability to relate to players.

“I can relate to [Sarkisian] because he’s younger,” Manning told 247Sports back in 2021. “It seems like we’re friends almost. I like him a lot. He’d be a cool guy to get to play for.

“Hopefully, he doesn’t get too many job offers and stays there. He’s a good guy. I really like everyone I’ve met and have enjoyed building relationships and meeting different guys.”

Manning’s first official start for the Longhorns is set for Saturday, August 30, in a highly anticipated matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes – a rematch of this past season’s Cotton Bowl.

As Texas turns the page to the Manning-era, all eyes will be on Arch to see if he can live up to the expectations that have followed him since high school.

Regarding Manning’s comments, of course he didn’t mean any disrespect to Austin. He was actually giving the city a compliment.

Having said that, with all due respect to the Longhorns’ fan base, I think most people would agree that Tuscaloosa is more football-obsessed than Austin.
