Why are Wilson and Maye in the Pro Bowl?
Russell Wilson and Drake Maye will replace Josh Allen and Lamarr Jackson in the Pro Bowl. Josh Allen will not participate due to a wrist injury and Lamarr Jackson withdrew from the Pro Bowl Games. This makes Joe Burrow, Russell Wilson, and Darke Maye the AFC representatives at quarterback. Burrow proved that he deserves to be a pro bowler, but Wilson and Maye should not be participating in the 2025 games.

KEY 2025 NFL Offseason Trade the Buffalo Bills Must Make
Russell Wilson and Drake Maye don’t deserve to be Pro Bowlers in 2025
Russell Wilson has had a great career in the NFL, but has not been the same guy in recent years. In 11 games, Wilson threw for 2,482 yards and 16 TDs at a 63.7% completion percentage. These are not Pro Bowl numbers.
Drake Maye was the 3rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Coming in as a raw prospect, Maye did show flashes of being a possible franchise quarterback. In 11 games, Maye threw for 2,276 yards and 15 TDs at a 66.6% completion percentage. While Maye did make plays in his rookie season, he did not play at a Pro Bowl level.
Who Should have been in the Pro Bowl?
With Josh Allen and Lamarr Jackson not participating, Mahomes in the Super Bowl, and Joe Burrow already participating in the Pro Bowl, who should the last two quarterback spots go to? Reports have said that CJ Stroud declined to participate and Bo Nix is recovering from injury, so the options are very limited. With that being said, there are better options.
Justin Herbert
Justin Herbert should have been added to the Pro Bowl roster. Herbert threw for 3,870 yards and 23 TDs at a 65.9% completion percentage. The young Chargers quarterback has a solid first season with HC Jim Harbaugh, and he should be the replacement for Josh Allen.
Aaron Rodgers
People will not love this option, but it becomes very interesting if this was Rodgers’ last season in the NFL. The future Hall of Famer threw for 3,897 yards and 28 TDs at a 63.0% completion percentage. While Rodgers and the Jets had a disappointing season, it would be fun to have Rodgers in the Pro Bowl if this is his last season.
Conclusion
Due to injuries and withdrawals, the AFC does not have many options for the quarterback position. This speaks to the bigger problem at hand, the Pro Bowl is not what it used to be. The NFL has tried to make changes to bring the event back to its former glory, but nothing has really stuck. While some past events have been fun, the competitive nature and prestige of being a Pro Bowler is gone.
