Speculation about Bill Belichick’s potential move back to the NFL continues to swirl, but both he and those close to him have doubled down on his commitment to the University of North Carolina football program.
Belichick, recently introduced as the Tar Heels’ head coach, has yet to sign a formal contract with the university, a detail highlighted in a report by CBS Sports on Thursday.
“Bill Belichick does not have a signed contract at UNC, which is not uncommon in college but does introduce gray area as to how much – if any – of the $10M buyout would be paid should he bolt for the NFL,” Jones reported on X.
The lack of a signed agreement has fueled speculation that Belichick could consider one of the vacant NFL head coaching positions, with teams like the Cowboys, Saints, Jets, Jaguars, and Raiders still seeking a head coach.
It’s been reported that Raiders minority owner Tom Brady recently spoke with Belichick and tried to convince him to come to Las Vegas. (Perhaps that ship hasn’t fully sailed.)
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Belichick would have had significant interest in the Cowboys job had he known it was going to come available. (Jerry Jones is said to also be interested.)
However, North Carolina general manager Mike Lombardi swiftly dismissed all of these rumors, asserting that Belichick is fully dedicated to his new role at UNC.
“Bill is recruiting in DC today and Baltimore tomorrow. His focus is on North Carolina football, hiring staff members and developing the team. The NFL isn’t a option so please stop making it one. Thank you,” Lombardi shot back on X.
“The reception towards UNC and Coach Belichick has been amazing from every school we visit. We are going to fight to keep North Carolina players here and bring the best to Chapel Hill,” he added.
Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, echoed these sentiments on social media, making it clear where the couple stands.
“Pictured: two people who are overtly committed to @uncfootball,” she posted on Instagram.
Hudson, a former college cheerleader, emphasized that her boyfriend has made his intentions clear.
While rumors linking Belichick to the NFL persist, all signs point to the legendary coach staying put in Chapel Hill.
As it turns out, Hudson is fully on-board with Belichick taking the college route and guiding the Tar Heels into the 2025 season.
