Star quarterback Carson Beck shocked the football world by deciding to not only pass up on the NFL draft, but transfer out of Georgia.
As you all know, Beck decided to transfer to the Miami Hurricanes thanks in large part to an alleged $4 million NIL deal he was able to secure.
While some Georgia fans didn’t mind seeing Beck leave Athens, the fact of the matter is Kirby Smart and company did try to keep him.
Even more interesting is the revelation that the Alabama Crimson Tide went hard after Beck once they knew he planned to leave the Bulldogs.
At the end of the day, Beck decided to pick the Hurricanes over every other potential team.
Besides money playing a factor, Beck’s girlfriend currently attends Miami and plays on the women’s basketball team.
The Hurricanes built a dynamic offense around Cam Ward this season, a system that propelled Ward to a fourth-place finish in Heisman Trophy voting.
Ward ranked second in the FBS in passing yards (4,313) and led the nation with 39 touchdown passes.
His draft stock soared throughout the season, with the Davey O’Brien Award winner positioning himself as the possible No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.
For Beck, the story was much different.
He entered the season viewed by many as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. He was also the top-ranked quarterback on many NFL draft boards.
However, the loss of Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey proved to be a much tougher challenge than many realized.
While Beck certainly had his moments, his draft stock took a massive blow when he suffered a season-ending UCL injury on the final play of the first half against Texas in the SEC Championship Game.
Fast forward and we’re left with the reality that Beck is staying in college football – but will no longer be a Georgia Bulldog.
We’ll see how everything plays out for Beck at Miami. Who knows? He could very well end up winning the Heisman next season and propel himself back up the draft boards.
Having said all of that, isn’t it absolutely fascinating to envision a world where Beck ditches Georgia for Alabama?
Just how close do you think he came to seriously considering leaving Athens for Tuscaloosa???
