Over 25 Cars Broken Into and Looted During Michigan Basketball Game

In the midst of an exhilarating college basketball showdown in Ann Arbor, things took an unexpected turn for several fans at the University of Michigan’s game against the Washington Huskies. While the Wolverines were busy securing their win at Crisler Arena, those parked at the nearby Pioneer High School lot were in for a shock—27 vehicles were targeted by vandals, their windows smashed and valuables taken.

The Ann Arbor police have confirmed these incidents, noting that the break-ins occurred during the game on Sunday. Unfortunately, no suspects have been apprehended yet. Among the losses were cash, purses, and wallets, leaving the returning spectators with not only a victorious memory of the game but also a somber reminder of the night’s events.

Joe Weitz, who had traveled from Kalamazoo with his 8-year-old daughter, experienced this firsthand. What should have been a thrilling first game experience for his daughter was dampened as they discovered the aftermath in the parking lot. “Everything was great until we got back out to the car after the game and saw glass everywhere,” Weitz shared. The emotional impact was notable, especially for his daughter, as they realized their car had been ransacked.

An unfortunate end to what was otherwise a memorable basketball matchup. As the community comes to grips with these incidents, fans are left hoping for swift justice and, perhaps, tighter security during future games.
