The Texas Longhorns are gearing up for a marquee Cotton Bowl matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Riding high from their nail-biting overtime victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Peach Bowl, the Longhorns are just one win away from the national championship game.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian, a seasoned leader with experience at both the collegiate and professional levels, has been instrumental in Texas’ resurgence.
As we know, with success comes great attention. And right on cue, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that Sarkisian’s success is catching the eye of NFL teams.
“I would expect some teams to call and inquire about the Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, who has drawn some interest from the NFL level,” Schefter reported.
Sarkisian’s NFL tenure includes a stint as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons during the 2017 season, following the team’s Super Bowl appearance.
However, the Falcons’ offense struggled to replicate its prior success, leading to a brief stay for Sarkisian in the professional ranks.
Currently, Sarkisian’s focus remains firmly on Ohio State, a powerhouse that has showcased dominance throughout the playoffs.
Most recently, the Buckeyes dismantled the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl, avenging an earlier regular-season defeat.
Texas, on the other hand, endured a rollercoaster Peach Bowl performance, squandering a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter before clinching a double-overtime victory against Arizona State.
Despite the ups and downs, Sarkisian’s leadership has transformed Texas into a top-tier program.
Just a few seasons ago, the Longhorns were widely considered underwhelming. Now, they are back in the national spotlight, with their head coach drawing mass attention.
While the attention and acclaim is more than warranted, the fact of the matter is it would be extremely hard to imagine Sark actually leaving Austin for another job.
What are your thoughts on the report that NFL teams may try luring him away from the Longhorns???
