Georgia, Florida & Michigan Among Powers Fighting Over Portal Star

Zachariah Branch, one of the most electrifying wide receivers in college football, has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal ahead of the 2025 season.

After two years with the USC Trojans, the former five-star recruit is seeking a new program, a move that has already ignited a fierce recruiting battle among top programs across the nation.

Branch, who initially chose USC as one of the most sought-after recruits in the country, now finds himself as a top target once again.

According to On3 Sports, several major programs have emerged as frontrunners for the dynamic playmaker.

Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, Miami, and Louisville are reportedly at the forefront of his recruitment.

Georgia is seen as a natural fit for Branch, given the Bulldogs’ struggles with consistency in their receiving corps this season.

Michigan has also shown significant interest. Pairing Branch with incoming quarterback Bryce Underwood would provide a formidable offensive duo, a scenario that excites Wolverines fans.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma and Miami are battling for quarterback John Mateer, and Branch’s potential addition to either program would only elevate their competitiveness.

(Predictably, the Sooners have been aggressive in the transfer portal already.)

Branch’s recruitment out of high school was marked by intense competition from schools like Alabama, Ohio State, and Texas. While those programs aren’t listed as frontrunners yet, they remain in the mix.

Branch burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2023, finishing his debut season with 523 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

While his production dipped in 2024, as did USC’s overall performance, his career totals of 78 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns demonstrate his ability to contribute as a receiver.

Equally impressive is Branch’s ability as a return specialist. In 2023, he electrified fans with touchdowns on both a punt return and a kickoff return, cementing his reputation as one of the most dangerous special teams players in the country.

Branch isn’t the only Trojan on the move. His brother, Zion Branch, a former four-star safety, is also transferring. Zion tallied 41 tackles over two seasons at USC and is expected to join his brother at their next destination.

With the Branch brothers hitting the transfer portal, the race is officially on.

Where do you think the pair will ultimately end up???
