As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has put an end to speculation about his football future.
In a candid social media post, Uiagalelei officially announced his decision to declare for the draft, concluding his college career after exhausting his NCAA eligibility.
“I’m excited to announce that I am declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft,” Uiagalelei posted on social media. “Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey so far. The best is yet to come.”
While his declaration may not come as a surprise, it has sparked debate among fans and analysts, given his inconsistent performance during the latter half of his college career.
Uiagalelei’s college football career spanned five seasons, beginning at Clemson, where he initially showed promise.
His standout season came in 2022, when he completed 61.9% of his passes for 2,521 yards, 22 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
That year solidified his reputation as a 6-foot-4, 250-pound quarterback with NFL potential.
After three seasons with the Tigers, Uiagalelei’s tenure at Clemson ended ugly. He then transferred to Oregon State for the 2023 season.
However, his time there was brief, as he moved again to Florida State for his final year of eligibility in 2024.
Unfortunately, neither stop lived up to the high expectations set during his 2022 season.
Florida State fans were furious with head coach Mike Norvell for pinpointing Uiagalelei as his quarterback of choice rather than making a more aggressive attempt at Cam Ward.
Uiagalelei was quickly exposed as fans mockingly labeled him one of the greatest con men in college football history, referencing the NIL deals he’s been able to pull off despite his poor play.
Now entering the draft, Uiagalelei’s once-bright prospects are clouded by two consecutive underwhelming seasons.
With the 2025 draft class perceived as weaker in the quarterback position, Uiagalelei’s timing could work in his favor.
However, questions remain about whether his raw talent and size will outweigh concerns about his lack of accuracy and consistent production in college.
