Belleville High School quarterback Bryce Underwood, Michigan’s prized five-star commit for 2025, made headlines Tuesday night when he attended the Detroit Pistons’ game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
During the game, Underwood gave his first public comments about his decision to flip his commitment from LSU to the Wolverines.
Speaking with Johnny Kane of FanDuel Sports, the much-hyped quarterback shed light on his thought process.
“Honestly, I’m very pleased with the decision that I made,” Underwood said. “Honestly, it was just mainly a family thing, a business aspect.”
Of course, many fans will roll their eyes at that statement. But at least Underwood admitted that “business” played a key part in his decision.
Underwood’s commitment marks a major win for Michigan’s recruiting class, which also includes his Belleville teammate, four-star defensive back Elijah Dotson, along with other highly touted prospects.
Ranked as the top player in the nation for the class of 2025, Underwood’s choice sent ripples across college football.
His standing as the number one overall recruit places him just ahead of Ohio State commit Tavien St. Clair, a fellow quarterback from Ohio.
When asked about Michigan’s victory over Ohio State this past weekend in Columbus, Underwood smiled and nodded, confirming he had watched the game.
The Wolverines’ shocking victory over the heavily-favored Buckeyes further underscored their current momentum, both on the field and in recruiting.
As the interview concluded, Underwood gave Wolverines fans an extra reason to cheer, ending with a spirited “Go Blue!”
The flip from LSU to Michigan is not only a major personal decision for Underwood but also a crucial step for the Wolverines as they continue to lay the groundwork for the future.
Now that we’ve all had time to let it sink in, what are your thoughts on Underwood’s decision to stay home and play for the Wolverines?
