In a significant move for the Colorado football program, elite 2025 five-star quarterback Julian Lewis announced his commitment to join Coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.
The Carrollton, Georgia native made the announcement on The Pat McAfee Show, marking a major recruiting win for Colorado.
Lewis had originally committed to USC in August 2023, but he decommitted just days ago, leaving the college football world speculating on his next destination.
Now, it’s official: Lewis will be heading to Boulder.
“BREAKING: Elite 2025 QB Julian Lewis has Committed to Colorado. The 6’0 185 QB from Carrollton, GA was previously Committed to USC Coach Prime got his GUY,” On3’s recruiting guru Hayes Fawcett posted on X.
A highly sought-after prospect, Lewis is currently ranked as the #35 player in the 2025 recruiting class and the #6 quarterback, according to 247Sports.
He’s also the #6 player in the state of Georgia.
Playing for Carrollton High School, Lewis has stood out as one of the country’s top quarterbacks, garnering offers from several elite programs including Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, and USC, before ultimately choosing Colorado.
Andrew Ivins, a recruiting analyst for 247Sports, praised Lewis’s playing style in his scouting report.
“A de facto point guard on the gridiron that can distribute the football like few others,” Ivins wrote. “Won’t blow many away with his build, but makes up for his subpar measurables with his ability to scan the field and manipulate defenses with his eyes.
“Compact release allows him to rip tight, accurate spirals to all different levels. Might not have a true cannon, but will drop balls over coverage well into the deeper third. Has proven to be a crafty mover both in and outside of the pocket and will extend plays like a true escape artist.”
Lewis’s path to Colorado has been a bit unconventional.
Originally part of the 2026 recruiting class, he reclassified to the 2025 class, making him one of the youngest prospects to commit this cycle.
Despite the move, he remains one of the top recruits in the country.
“Elected to forgo his senior season after reclassifying and moving up a year, but has already shown that he’s well ahead of the curve, posting a 25-3 record in two seasons while competing in the Peach State’s highest classification,” The scouting report added.
“Size might be a sticking point for some, but rare intangibles make him one of the top passers in the 2025 cycle as he constantly finds ways to move the chains. Tailor made for a modern spread attack that wants to push the pace and constantly challenge defenses.”
Colorado’s recruiting momentum has been steadily growing since Deion Sanders took over as head coach.
While the Buffaloes’ 2025 recruiting class ranked #78 nationally before Lewis’s commitment, this addition should give it a significant boost.
Notably, Lewis’ commitment comes during an intense time where there are plenty of rumors swirling regarding Sanders’ future as head coach.
The Buffaloes are currently 8-2 and positioned to make a potential run at the College Football Playoff.
What are your thoughts on Lewis’ decision to ditch Lincoln Riley and USC for Colorado?
Do you think his commitment means that Sanders will be staying in Boulder???
