The SEC Softball Tournament is in full swing at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky, and Day 2 is delivering exactly the kind of bracket drama that college softball fans live for. Four second-round games are on the schedule Wednesday — and by the time the last out is recorded tonight, the quarterfinal matchups against Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee will be set.

The top four seeds are watching. They earned double byes and won’t take the field until Thursday. But what happens today will determine who they face — and whether any of those lower seeds has the momentum, pitching, and composure to pull off an upset.

Today’s Second-Round Slate

The action begins at 10 AM ET when Texas A&M faces Auburn. The Aggies — who memorably rallied to beat No. 1 Oklahoma 8-5 in the weather-resumed Game 1 of their regular-season series — are dangerous. Auburn advanced out of the first round by beating Missouri 6-2 on Tuesday.

At 1 PM ET, Mississippi State takes on Arkansas. The Razorbacks are the No. 7 seed and one of the more dangerous teams in this bracket — Arkansas has been playing with confidence late in the season and could give anyone trouble in a single-elimination format. MSU survived a 4-3 thriller over Kentucky on Day 1 to get here.

The 4 PM ET game may be the day’s most compelling: No. 13 seed Ole Miss against No. 5 Tennessee. The Lady Volunteers have been one of the most consistent SEC programs all year, but Ole Miss proved on Day 1 — shutting out South Carolina 2-0 — that they can pitch. A lower-seeded team with a hot pitcher is always dangerous in tournament play.

Georgia and LSU close out the day at 7 PM ET. Georgia holds the No. 9 seed, LSU the No. 8. This one is almost a coin flip on paper — two programs with tournament pedigree meeting in a winner-take-all format. Whoever wins advances to face one of the top four seeds Thursday.

What’s Already Been Decided

Day 1 established two things: this tournament will not be easy for anyone, and first-round upsets were available. Kentucky — the host school — fell 4-3 to Mississippi State, ending the Wildcats’ run on home soil. Missouri, which entered with hopes of a deep tournament run, was turned away 6-2 by Auburn. South Carolina dropped a 2-0 shutout decision to Ole Miss.

These weren’t blowouts. They were competitive games decided by pitching and timely hitting — exactly the kind of tournament softball that makes the SEC so entertaining to watch.

What’s Next

Thursday is when the tournament truly transforms. No. 1 Oklahoma enters with its double bye, carrying the weight of Kendall Wells’ record chase and a 48-7 record. Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee also step in at the quarterfinal round. The bracket is being handed to them today.

The SEC Tournament runs through Saturday, May 9, with the championship game completing the conference’s automatic bid picture before the Selection Show on Sunday, May 10, at 7 PM ET on ESPN2. The road to Devon Park and the Women’s College World Series runs directly through this week in Lexington.

All games are on the SEC Network. Today’s schedule: 10 AM, 1 PM, 4 PM, and 7 PM ET. The bracket will be set by midnight.
