As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell has become the subject of debate – not for his performance on the field, but for the length of his arms.
Some draft analysts believe his 33-inch arm measurement could cause him to slip down the first round, but not everyone is convinced it’s a major issue.
Campbell’s arm length became a hot topic at LSU’s Pro Day, with some scouts questioning whether it could impact his ability to protect the edge at the next level.
However, one anonymous NFL evaluator told FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz that the concern is being overblown.
“I don’t think teams will be as concerned about Campbell’s arm length as some have made it out to be,” the evaluator told Schultz. “His Pro Day measurement should help quiet the unnecessary noise. But at the end of the day, if you can play, you can play.”
Despite the chatter about his arms, Campbell continues to be regarded as an ultra-smart player with the skills to thrive in the NFL.
“Campbell has a high football IQ and the mobility and strength needed to be an NFL tackle,” the evaluator added.
For what it’s worth, Campbell shared his feelings on the matter and he finds the sudden criticism idiotic.
“For two years, nobody had any measurements on me and nobody said anything about my play. So now, all of a sudden, an arm length decides if I’m a good player or not? I think it’s BS,” he said.
“But any decision-makers in the NFL, they don’t really care. It’s all people who don’t coach, and they don’t coach for a reason.”
Many experts have ranked Campbell as the top offensive tackle in the draft, and top tackles typically go within the first 10 picks.
He has already met with teams selecting in the top five at the NFL Combine, and some believe he could be drafted even higher than Colorado’s Travis Hunter, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.
Many mock drafts have the New England Patriots selecting Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick, ahead of Hunter.
“They have offensive line issues and Campbell can play guard or tackle. That matters to the Patriots,” CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco said. “He may never be an All-Pro, but he will be a good, long-term starter. They could also look for receiver help here, but the value is on the line.”
If the Patriots do select Campbell that high, it would show they are prioritizing pass protection over skill position upgrades – and that concerns over arm length aren’t enough to deter them from taking the LSU standout.
Regardless of where Campbell lands, LSU is poised to produce yet another first-round pick – marking the fifth time since 2019 that the Tigers have sent a player to the opening round of the draft.
Whether Campbell ends up in New England or elsewhere, one thing is clear: his talent and versatility outweigh any concerns about his measurements.
