The question of whether Deion Sanders would intervene to prevent his son, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, from joining specific NFL teams has stirred up significant conversation recently.
This debate gained momentum following remarks from ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky, who speculated on Deion’s influence over Shedeur’s future.
In the latest 2025 mock draft released by The 33rd Team, analysts projected the Cleveland Browns to select Shedeur Sanders with the No. 2 overall pick.
With Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson sidelined by injuries and underperforming at a historic level, the franchise appears in need of a fresh face at quarterback.
However, Orlovsky believes that neither Cleveland nor the Carolina Panthers are viable landing spots for Shedeur, given Deion’s influence.
“There is a 0% chance Deion let’s Shedeur get drafted by Cleveland … Cleveland/Carolina will not happen,” Orlovsky posted on X.
Needless to say, Orlovsky’s assertion prompted swift reactions from fans on social media, many of whom were quick to question how much sway Deion could realistically exert over the NFL draft process.
“There is 0% chance Deion has any say what an NFL team does. This is big boy ball. Not college where you can drop out or transfer.”
“Started to sound like RG3 with Caleb not going to Chicago.”
“This might sound crazy, but it’s not up to Deion.”
“Just goes to show that the quarterback that he is can’t turn around the franchise and would rather take the easier route and go to a winning program vs verses Tracy adversity and making a team better for years of development.”
“As a Carolina fan. I am perfectly happy knowing we would not get stuck with that.”
Deion recently addressed his intentions regarding Shedeur’s potential NFL destinations during an interview on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast.
In it, he confirmed that he would indeed attempt to steer his son away from certain teams.
“I know where I want them to go,” the Hall of Famer said. “There’s certain cities where it ain’t going to happen. It’s going to be an Eli [Manning]. We ain’t doing that.”
We all know how things played out with John Elway and Eli Manning in the past. Having said that, Deion has no control over what any NFL team does on draft night.
Sure, things could get ugly, but Deion can’t actually prevent any team from drafting his son.
What are your thoughts on the whole situation?
Where do you rank Shedeur among the top quarterbacks in college football? … At the end of the day, where do you think he ends up on draft night???
