Tampa Bay Rays’ star shortstop, Wander Franco, remains embroiled in a legal battle, facing allegations of inappropriate relationships with minors. The ongoing saga took a significant turn in late December when Franco managed to evade a summons in the Dominican Republic. However, he now faces even more significant challenges following his arrest in the DR.
Franco’s apprehension by Dominican Republic authorities was confirmed by MLB Insider Hector Gomez, marking a pivotal development in the case.
On January 3rd, Franco is scheduled to appear before a judge for arraignment. Furthermore, prosecutors are poised to request his detention without bail as legal proceedings unfold, as stated by Dominican Republic lawyer Hector Gomez.
The MLB took proactive measures by placing Franco on administrative leave back in August when allegations of misconduct began circulating. Since then, multiple parties have initiated legal actions against the Tampa Bay star, with reports suggesting that he had engaged in relationships with at least two minors.
In August, the Rays released a statement expressing their support for the MLB’s investigation into Franco’s conduct but have refrained from making further comments. Franco subsequently returned to the Dominican Republic, where local authorities continued their scrutiny. Notably, reports emerged of authorities conducting a raid at the baseball star’s residence on December 26th.
Following the raid, Franco was summoned by the Prosecutor’s Office for Children and Adolescents in the Dominican Republic on December 28th. Regrettably, Franco failed to make the scheduled appearance, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
