Urban Meyer’s Surprising Choice For #1 Draft Pick

The 2025 NFL Draft lacks a clear-cut top prospect, unlike past years when a singular talent stood above the rest. This time, at least four players have legitimate cases to be selected first overall.

The Tennessee Titans hold the coveted No. 1 pick, placing them in a position to make a franchise-altering decision. A home-run selection could accelerate their rebuild, while a misstep could leave them stuck in mediocrity for years.

If former Ohio State and Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer had the top choice, he’d take Colorado’s electrifying two-way star, Travis Hunter.

Meyer shared his thoughts on The Triple Option Podcast, calling Hunter’s skill set unprecedented.

“I’m taking Travis Hunter,” Meyer confidently stated. “I just think, in my lifetime, very few can do what he can do. I stood next to the guy. I watched him. Obviously, we covered him quite a bit. I probably would play him both ways and just invest in that guy. He’s a good person.”

Meyer was particularly impressed by Hunter’s relentless effort.

“He’s got a skillset that not many…can do both. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a guy at that level do that,” he added. “There’s something about him when he plays 170 plays…his 168th on offense is blocking down the field with the same energy that he did on play 16.”

Hunter is coming off one of the most remarkable seasons in college football history, winning the Heisman Trophy along with the Biletnikoff Award (best receiver), Bednarik Award (best defensive player), and Hornung Award (most versatile player), among several others.

Hunter finished the season with 1,258 receiving yards and 16 total touchdowns while making a major impact on defense with 11 pass breakups and four interceptions.

Despite Meyer’s endorsement, oddsmakers currently favor Miami quarterback Cam Ward (-320) as the top overall selection, per FanDuel Sportsbook. Hunter has the third-best odds at +1800, indicating a long shot for the No. 1 pick.

With the draft fast approaching, the Titans have a monumental choice ahead. Whether Hunter ultimately hears his name called first remains to be seen, but his rare versatility makes him one of the most fascinating prospects in years.

What are your thoughts on Meyer’s stance? … Though it probably won’t happen, would YOU take Hunter if you had the No. 1 overall pick???
