The OU Softball Dynasty is Over

Oklahoma’s roster has undergone significant changes for this upcoming season, leading to a shift in their ranking. The Preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll has placed Oklahoma at No. 3 in the nation, a departure from their previous No. 1 ranking in the preseason polls. Texas and Florida hold the top two spots, with Oklahoma behind them.

Despite Oklahoma’s remarkable performance in the Women’s College World Series last year, clinching their fourth consecutive National Championship, the departure of key players has necessitated a rebuilding phase for the Sooners. Notable seniors like Jayda Coleman, Tiare Jennings, Kinzie Hansen, Rylie Boone, and Nicole May, as well as others, have graduated, paving the way for new talent to shine.

Texas secured 15 first-place votes, Florida received four, and Oklahoma garnered six, making them the only schools to receive such recognition. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State and Tennessee complete the top five in the preseason rankings.

Sophomores Ella Parker and Kasidi Pickering are anticipated to step into leadership roles, having played crucial parts in Oklahoma’s previous championship-winning season. Additionally, the return of senior first baseman Cydney Sanders will provide valuable experience to the team’s lineup.

Head coach Patty Gasso made strategic moves during the offseason to bolster the team, including acquisitions from the transfer portal and a highly ranked incoming class. Noteworthy additions such as Utah outfielder Abigale Dayton, Louisiana pitcher Sam Landry, and North Carolina catcher Isabela Emerling, among others, have strengthened the team. Furthermore, securing the commitment of Sophia Bordi, the top pitcher in the 2025 class, who chose to enroll early for the upcoming season, bodes well for Oklahoma.

In addition to the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, Oklahoma also holds the No. 3 spot in the Softball America and D1 Softball preseason rankings. Texas and Florida maintain their top ranks in these polls as well. The competitive landscape is set for an exciting season ahead in NCAA softball.
