As it turns out, Jeter is related to music superstar Ciara!
The singer-songwriter was left utterly surprised when she uncovered a familial link to the Yankees legend through the PBS show ‘Finding Your Roots,’ hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr.
On the show, which delves into celebrities’ DNA samples to trace their ancestry, Ciara said: “What the world! You are kidding me,” upon discovering her connection to the world-famous Jeter.
“That is your DNA cousin,” Gates clarified.
Ciara, still in disbelief, responded, “Derek Jeter. That is crazy!”

The program explained that the DNA relation between Ciara and Jeter is derived from a long identical stretch of DNA on their 14th chromosome.
Ciara’s husband, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, shared a clip from PBS on his social media and playfully captioned: “Always knew it! @Yankees captain!” along with crying-laughing and trophy emojis.

Jeter, who spent his entire 20-year career with the Yankees, winning five World Series titles and making 14 All-Star appearances, had previously appeared on the same program.
It revealed that his great-great-grandfather, Green Jeter, founded a church in Alabama in 1872, which remains active to this day.

Interestingly, Ciara is not the only celebrity to discover a distant familial tie to Jeter on the show.
It was previously revealed that Jeter and comedian Jim Gaffigan are cousins as well…
In his career, Jeter hit .310 with 260 home runs and 1,311 RBI’s … Of course, he was even better in the postseason which is why he’s become a God-like figure in Yankees history.
