Texas Shouldn’t Even Show Up According To Urban Meyer

Legendary Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer offered high praise for the Buckeyes this week, predicting a national championship if they maintain their recent dominance.

Fresh off decisive victories over Tennessee and Oregon in the first two rounds of the College Football Playoff, Ohio State is set to face Texas in a semifinal clash at the Cotton Bowl on Friday night.

A win would propel the Buckeyes into the title game against either Penn State or Notre Dame.

On the latest episode of The Triple Option podcast, Meyer expressed confidence in head coach Ryan Day’s squad.

“If Team-A shows up, this will be a wrap. Ohio State will lift the gold trophy,” Meyer said. “If the best roster in the country plays like the best roster in the country, they’ll be national champs in a few weeks.”

Meyer pointed to Ohio State’s recent playoff wins – by 25 points over Tennessee and 20 points against Oregon – as evidence of their dominance.

According to Meyer, those lopsided scores didn’t fully capture the Buckeyes’ superiority on the field.

He also credited Day and his coaching staff for a key adjustment that has helped the team reach its peak.

“My understanding is Ohio State simplified things with the offensive line. That’s the one area that has struggled,” Meyer explained.

If Ohio State wins its next two games, it would mark back-to-back national titles for the Big Ten, following Michigan’s championship last season.

Meyer suggested this shift signals the end of the SEC’s dominance in college football – at least for now.

“Is the SEC’s dominance over? It is. It’s over,” Meyer said. “Now, next year’s another year. But for two years, it’s over.”

Day is the most polarizing coach in all of college football. Even his harshest critics have to (at least secretly) agree that he gets too much crap at times.

While Ohio State’s loss to Michigan in the regular season finale will forever be inexcusable, the fact of the matter is the main goal of a national title is very much within reach.

As a matter of fact, the Buckeyes are currently viewed as significant favorites to win it all. (Which may not be a good thing if we’re being honest.)

Having said that, many fans agree with Meyer that Ohio State has the most talented team in the country and if they play their best they will be extremely tough to beat.

What are your thoughts on Meyer’s comments?

Will Ohio State finish the job and win the title? … If not, would it mark the end of the Ryan Day era in Columbus???
