Ohio State and Texas are set to kick off the 2025 college football season on Saturday, August 30. The highly anticipated matchup will be broadcast on FOX, likely starting at noon as part of the network’s Big Noon Kickoff lineup.
Last week, reports surfaced that Ohio State had reached out to FOX with a request to shift the game to Sunday night, August 31.
This proposed change aimed to secure a primetime slot in a standalone window without any competing NFL games, offering the Buckeyes and Longhorns even greater national exposure.
However, Texas declined the offer…
According to reports, the Longhorns were opposed to moving the game from Saturday to Sunday, insisting the showdown remain on its original day.
Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte later confirmed the reports, explaining that Texas saw no advantage in pushing the game back by a day.
Addressing frustrated Ohio State fans, Del Conte outlined why the Longhorns preferred to keep the game on Saturday.
Moving the game to Sunday night would have created a short turnaround for Texas in Week 2 and placed the game in Ohio Stadium under the primetime spotlight, which Texas viewed as a disadvantage.
“Why would I want to move the game to Sunday night and have a short week?” Del Conte said. “I’ve got to go to church.”
It’s no secret many Ohio State fans have grown sick and tired of having so many of their marquee games kick off at noon.
It’s one thing to have the Michigan game start at noon – but Buckeye fans would loved to be tossed a night game every once and a while. (And who could blame them?)
Regardless, Del Conte made sure there will be no such thing come Week 1.
While the much-anticipated clash’s official start time has yet to be decided, many anticipate it will inevitably be slated for noon. (Unless pressure from Columbus continues to build perhaps?)
What are your thoughts on this great debate? … Should Del Conte be villainized for refusing Ohio State’s request???
