Syracuse University has announced the appointment of Fran Brown as its new head coach, with Brown set to take the reins of the football program. Brown, currently the defensive backs coach at the University of Georgia, is no stranger to the Northeast, having previously served as an assistant at Rutgers and Temple.
“I am incredibly proud to be leading Syracuse Football at a university with a rich and storied tradition of academic and athletic excellence,” said Brown in a press release. “Syracuse Football has outstanding talent, great facilities and passionate alumni. The success of the players is my No. 1 priority—on and off the field. I want my guys to succeed in life because they played football at Syracuse.”
Known for his exceptional recruiting skills, Brown played a pivotal role in securing top-tier talent for Georgia, including highly-rated prospects like Ellis Robinson IV, Justin Williams, and Demello Jones. His prowess in recruiting has earned him recognition as the nation’s top position group recruiter by 247Sports.
The official introduction of Fran Brown as Syracuse’s head coach will take place at a press conference on the university’s campus. This schedule allows him to fulfill his coaching duties with Georgia in the SEC title game before transitioning to his new role.
Syracuse’s athletic director, John Wildhack, expressed confidence in the hiring decision, emphasizing Brown’s vision for the program and his impressive recruiting track record.
Syracuse decided to part ways with its former head coach, Dino Babers, following a challenging season that saw the team struggle. Babers had been with the program for eight years, during which the Orange had a mixed performance record.
Dan Mullen, a former Florida and Mississippi State coach, was previously considered a potential candidate for the head coaching position at Syracuse. However, Mullen dispelled these rumors through a social media post, confirming he would not be taking on the role. Mullen’s buyout from the University of Florida ensures him substantial compensation through 2027.
Syracuse is now looking ahead to a new era under Fran Brown’s leadership, with high hopes for the future of its football program.
