Shoulder Surgery Forces Astros’ Kendall Graveman to Miss MLB Season

Houston Astros’ right-handed reliever Kendall Graveman is set to sit out the entirety of the 2024 season following surgery on his right shoulder, as confirmed by the team on Tuesday.

The decision for surgery came after Graveman experienced discomfort in his right shoulder, leading to his absence from the playoffs. This setback persisted as he prepared for the upcoming season during a flat-ground throwing program. The 33-year-old pitcher, who had the surgical procedure last week, had an impressive stint with the Astros last season, boasting a 2-2 record and an outstanding 2.42 ERA in 23 appearances. Graveman’s contribution became significant after his acquisition from the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline.

Since joining the Astros in 2021, Graveman has amassed a total of 24 saves and 51 holds, making a notable impact that included reaching the World Series in his first season with the team. Throughout his career, spanning appearances with the Blue Jays, Athletics, Mariners, White Sox, and Astros, Graveman has compiled a 37-43 record with a 3.95 ERA and 494 strikeouts in 280 appearances.

This unfortunate injury will undoubtedly be a significant loss for the Astros bullpen, as they will have to navigate the 2024 season without Graveman’s valuable contributions on the mound. The team will look to other pitchers to step up and fill the void left by the talented reliever as they strive for success in the upcoming season.
