Deion Sanders is widely expected to remain as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, but NFL teams in need of a new leader are likely to pursue him anyways, according to a report from ESPN.
“A few weeks ago, we broke down Deion Sanders’ NFL outlook,” Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler wrote in an ESPN.com column. “I’m bumping this again because a league source told me this about Sanders in recent days: ‘I think [NFL] teams will want to hear what he has to say.’
“So it wouldn’t shock to see the Jets or Saints or a team casting a wide net to at least reach out or do its research on him.”
Sanders has elevated Colorado’s football program during his two years as head coach.
Under his leadership, the Buffaloes were in contention for the College Football Playoff late into the season, bolstered by standout performances from his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and Heisman Trophy-winning two-way player Travis Hunter.
Both are projected to be top-5 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
This success has fueled speculation that Sanders could be tempted by an NFL coaching opportunity, especially with teams holding early draft picks who could target his son.
If Sanders were to consider a move to the NFL, several teams stand out.
The New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, both of whom are expected to conduct extensive coaching searches after the season, are mentioned in ESPN’s report.
Additionally, the Las Vegas Raiders could emerge as contenders for Sanders, given their likely positioning at the top of the 2025 draft.
It’s the world’s worst secret that the Raiders want to draft Shedeur – and the feeling is very much mutual.
With Antonio Pierce on the red-hot seat, could we possibly see both Shedeur AND Deion head to Vegas?
It should definitely be noted once again that Deion has stated numerous times that he’s more than happy at Colorado and has no plans to head to the NFL.
However, the report by ESPN shows that some teams will at least make him say no.
What are your thoughts on the situation???
