Seattle Mariners Strengthen Bullpen with Addition of Former Orioles Reliever

After a 2022 postseason appearance, the Seattle Mariners found themselves on the outside looking in during the 2023 campaign. Keen on regaining their prominence, the Mariners have bolstered their bullpen with a strategic acquisition.

Austin Voth is now part of the Mariners, having inked a one-year, $1.25 million contract, as reported by Robert Murray of FanSided. Voth’s journey with the Baltimore Orioles began in the second half of the 2022 season.

The right-hander faced challenges in the 2023 season, registering a 5.19 ERA and a 34/15 K/BB ratio. Contrastingly, Voth showcased his prowess during his debut with the Orioles in the latter half of 2022, boasting a 3.04 ERA and an impressive 72/25 K/BB ratio.

It’s noteworthy that Voth’s standout performance in 2022 occurred with him making a career-high 17 starts. However, he did not secure a single start in the 2023 season, transitioning instead to a full-time reliever role, a move accompanied by some inevitable growing pains. Despite this, the Mariners, impressed by Voth’s potential, have brought him on board in anticipation of a playoff push.

Seattle’s bullpen emerged as a cornerstone of strength throughout the 2023 season, securing the fourth rank in the major leagues with a 3.48 ERA. Their dominance extended to a .232 batting average against, tying for the eighth-best, and a commendable 211 walks, tying for the third-fewest in the league. With the addition of Austin Voth, the Mariners aim to fortify an already formidable bullpen, setting the stage for a compelling return to postseason contention and building on the strengths that defined their previous campaign.

As the Mariners navigate the upcoming season, Voth’s presence adds a dynamic element to their pitching lineup, reflecting the team’s commitment to achieving success on the mound and making waves in the competitive landscape of MLB baseballlo
