Ryan Day Gives Eye-Opening Update On OSU QB Race

As the Ohio State Buckeyes prepare for what they hope is a national championship run, head coach Ryan Day finds himself facing a critical decision: who will lead the team as the starting quarterback?

With the season rapidly approaching, Day has yet to name a definitive starter, but recent comments suggest that he’s nearing a final decision.

Unsurprisingly, former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard seems to be the likely choice.

Day’s remarks came during a recent press conference, where he discussed the ongoing quarterback competition.

“I will say that he has taken command of the huddle at the line of scrimmage,” Day said of Howard. “I think he’s much more confident out there. No decisions have been made.”

Howard, who transferred to Ohio State this offseason, is competing primarily with Devin Brown for the starting job.

Day acknowledged that both players have separated themselves in the race, but highlighted Howard’s recent performance as particularly eye-opening.

“We’ll take an evaluation and see where we’re at,” Day said. “Both guys are getting reps with the 1s. But I will say that Will really has taken some strides in the last couple of practices, making plays on third down again.

“He hasn’t won the job, but we have seen positive play there.”

As Ohio State’s opener draws nearer, Buckeye fans are hoping that the team will live up to the sky-high hype.

Legendary coach Urban Meyer stated that the 2024 Buckeyes could very well be the best team in program history … That’s quite a statement to say the least.

Howard seems to be a near-lock to win the starting job … Would that be the right decision?

Most importantly, will this be the year that Day and company finally get over the hump and win the national title?

If they fail, could Day be a goner???
