Rangers Add Former All-Star Shane Greene in Latest Round of Minor League Signings

The Texas Rangers are fortifying their pitching staff for the upcoming season, signing three experienced right-handers to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training. Former All-Star reliever Shane Greene headlines this trio, joined by Jonathan Holder and Austin Pruitt.

Shane Greene, a 35-year-old right-hander, showcased his skills with the Chicago Cubs last June, contributing two scoreless relief appearances during brief stints in the majors. An American League All-Star in 2019, Greene boasts an impressive track record with 67 career saves and a 4.50 ERA over 345 games spanning ten seasons in the majors.

Jonathan Holder, 30, spent the 2023 season in the Los Angeles Angels organization. His notable performances were with the New York Yankees from 2016 to 2020, where he achieved a 10-6 record with a 4.38 ERA in 157 games, primarily in a relief role.

Austin Pruitt, another right-handed addition, experienced a successful stint with the Oakland Athletics before a right forearm strain sidelined him towards the end of the previous season. Pruitt compiled a 2-6 record with a 2.98 ERA in 38 appearances, including six starts, showcasing his versatility on the mound. With a career that includes playing for Tampa Bay, Houston, and Miami, Pruitt has accrued a 14-16 record and a 4.43 ERA in 150 big league games since 2017.

These acquisitions follow the recent signings of veteran reliever Diego Castillo and two other right-handers, strengthening the Texas Rangers’ pitching depth as they prepare for the upcoming MLB season.
