Quarterback Jayden de Laura Chooses Texas State for Next Chapter

Quarterback Jayden de Laura, a dual starter at both Arizona and Washington State, is set to embark on a new chapter in his collegiate football journey as he announces his transfer to Texas State for the upcoming 2024 season.

Taking to social media to share the news, de Laura is ready to make an impact with the Texas State team, known for their impressive 11th national ranking in scoring during the past season. Notably, the team will welcome back starting quarterback TJ Finley, who boasts experience from both LSU and Auburn.

Hailing from Honolulu, de Laura entered the transfer portal on Dec. 28, predating the departure of Arizona coach Jedd Fisch to Washington. Throughout the 2022 season, de Laura led the charge for Arizona under Fisch’s guidance, achieving the third-highest passing yards in team history (3,685) and the sixth-highest total of touchdown passes (25). Despite starting the 2023 season as Arizona’s quarterback, an ankle injury in Week 4 against Stanford sidelined de Laura.

Stepping into the void, freshman Noah Fifita took the reins and contributed significantly, leading Arizona to a commendable 10-3 record and securing the No. 11 spot in the AP Poll.

De Laura’s football journey began at Washington State, where he earned recognition as the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman Player of the Year in 2021. During that season, he showcased his prowess by passing for 2,798 yards and 23 touchdowns, ultimately helping the team secure a spot in the Alamo Bowl.

Boasting an impressive career resume, de Laura brings 8,489 passing yards, 63 touchdowns, 31 interceptions, and 12 rushing touchdowns to his new venture at Texas State. His transfer adds an intriguing dynamic to the Texas State quarterback lineup, promising an exciting season ahead for both de Laura and the Bobcats.
