With MLB free agency in full swing, the Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly considering a series of significant roster changes to bolster their chances for a World Series run next season.
Key among these discussions is the potential trade of third baseman Alec Bohm, a move that could shake up the team’s core after their disappointing postseason loss to the New York Mets.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that Bohm, who put up strong numbers in the 2024 season, is on the trading block as the Phillies explore ways to retool.
“While he was a well-above-average hitter — .280/.332/.448 with 61 extra-base hits — his first-half OPS was nearly 150 points higher than in the second half, and the Phillies are looking to shake up their team after a disappointing postseason ouster by the Mets,” Passan reported.
The 27-year-old Bohm had a productive 2024 season with 15 home runs, 97 RBIs, and 44 doubles among his 155 hits.
His performance has made him an attractive target for teams seeking a reliable bat, and if the Phillies officially put him on the market, interest will likely be high.
In a related development, ESPN’s Buster Olney revealed that Philadelphia might be eyeing Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman as a potential replacement.
According to Olney, a “rival evaluator” identified the Phillies as a possible landing spot for Bregman, who is a free agent for the first time in his career.
Bregman, a two-time World Series champion with the Astros, remains a valuable asset at 30 years old.
He posted a .260 average with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs during the 2024 season.
Known for his leadership and postseason pedigree, Bregman could bring much-needed consistency and experience to a Phillies team intent on contending while their championship window remains open.
Philadelphia’s interest doesn’t stop at Bregman.
Superstar outfielder Juan Soto, widely regarded as the top free agent this offseason, has also emerged as a potential target.
Soto, just 26, is expected to command a record-breaking contract and would instantly transform any team’s lineup. He has started meeting with teams to explore his options.
With the Phillies eager to erase the sting of their postseason exit, fans should expect an active and aggressive approach from the front office.
