Porter Moser will be Fired from OU Head Coaching Job

Oklahoma coach Porter Moser shouts during an SEC men's college basketball game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Texas Longhorns at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025. Texas won 77-73.

LSU claimed an exciting 82-79 victory over Oklahoma on Saturday night, marking the Sooners’ fifth consecutive loss. Despite holding the lead for over 34 minutes, OU (16-9, 3-9 SEC) saw their advantage slip away in the closing moments of the game.

The turning point came when LSU guard Cam Carter converted a clutch 4-point play, knotting the score at 79 apiece with just 20.9 seconds remaining. Following a crucial steal, Carter then completed a traditional 3-point play with only 8 seconds left, propelling the Tigers to an 81-79 lead. Vyctorius Miller sealed the deal with a free throw in the waning seconds.

Leading the charge for Oklahoma was Jeremiah Fears, who notched 15 points and five rebounds, including two made 3-pointers. Jalon Moore provided strong support with 14 points and seven rebounds, going a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line. Duke Miles also shined at the charity stripe, converting all eight of his attempts while tallying 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals without a turnover.

Looking ahead, OU will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they face off against No. 3 Florida in Gainesville at the O’Connell Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, with the game airing on ESPN2.

As things currently stand, the pressure is mounting on head coach Porter Moser. With the team’s prospects of making March Madness looking increasingly uncertain following a string of disappointing results, it appears that a failure to secure a spot in the tournament could spell the end of Moser’s tenure at Oklahoma.
