Phenom RB’s Decision Down To Notre Dame & Big Ten Power

The Michigan Wolverines are in the hunt for one of the nation’s top running backs, but they have serious competition.

Javian Osborne, a four-star recruit from Forney High School in Texas, has trimmed his choices down to just two elite programs: Michigan and Notre Dame.

“NEWS 4-star RB Javian Osborne is down to Michigan and Notre Dame, per @Hayesfawcett3… Osborne is the No. 8 RB in the 2026 class,” On3 Recruits reported on X.

Osborne, ranked No. 83 nationally in the 2026 recruiting cycle by 247Sports’ composite rankings, is also considered the No. 6 running back and No. 11 overall prospect from Texas.

Osborne has been turning heads with his explosive play and versatility, making him one of the most coveted backs in his class. Scouts praise his ability to navigate through traffic and create space with his footwork.

“High-volume workhorse with huge production as a sophomore,” Osborne’s scouting report states. “Creative runner in the hole and the first 10-20 yards. Capable of stacking cuts at any level of the defense and bursting to green grass.”

Osborne’s acceleration and shiftiness make him a dangerous weapon, even if he’s still working on his top-end speed.

“Runs with impressive initial acceleration. Quick-footed to set up cuts and mask impending redirection,” the report added. “Top-end gear does not match early speed but is not a weakness, as reflected by an encouraging 11.05 100 in Spring 2024. Violent gait that helps shake glancing contact, but might influence balance.”

Osborne’s physicality and balance have also drawn attention, though he still has room to develop in those areas.

“Repeatedly showed hop-skip-jump close-quarters evasiveness as a sophomore. Consistency as a run finisher should increase with physical development,” the report continued. “Capable pass catcher who ideally will get more reps in that category. Occasionally gathers and gears down slightly when redirecting.”

Michigan has a rich history of producing elite running backs, with recent standouts like Hassan Haskins, Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards, and Kalel Mullings. Osborne could be the next in line if he decides to commit to Sherrone Moore’s Wolverines.

His skill set fits well with Michigan’s run-heavy offensive approach, but Notre Dame is also making a strong push.

Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish are no pushover in the running back department and they figure to have just as good of a shot at landing Osborne.

While Osborne has yet to set a commitment date, Michigan appears to be in a strong position to land the dynamic playmaker. However, with Notre Dame also in the mix, his decision will be one to watch closely.

What are your thoughts on Osborne as a prospect? … At the end of the day, will he end up in South Bend or Ann Arbor???
