Panic As $95 Million CFB Coach Goes “Missing”

Authorities are searching for former Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker, who has reportedly gone off the radar as officials attempt to locate him for legal proceedings.

Tucker, who led the Spartans from 2020 to 2023, was fired last year after being accused of sexual harassment by Brenda Tracy, a rape survivor and activist who had spoken to Michigan State players about personal conduct.

Tracy alleged that Tucker acted inappropriately during a phone call, while Tucker has claimed the interaction was consensual.

Now, amid a defamation lawsuit filed by Tracy, officials have been unable to find him.

According to a report by Michigan State’s student newspaper, The State News, attempts to contact Tucker – including certified letters sent by his attorney – have been unsuccessful.

The letters were returned undeliverable after being sent to multiple locations, including his former home in East Lansing and nine previously known addresses.

From the report…

“Tracy also hired a process server to attempt to find Tucker and serve him in person. That too was fruitless.

“The server went to the East Lansing home owned by Tucker, but found that he is no longer living there, according to an affidavit filed with the court. A UPS driver reportedly told the server that Tucker’s ex-wife and ex-mother-in-law live in the house, but the former coach has not lived there since his recent divorce.

“It’s unclear exactly what Tucker’s strategy is. Evading service of a lawsuit can delay the matter, but often brings more issues for the defendant down the road. If the court grants Tracy’s motion and Tucker continues to evade attempts to serve him, the case could end in a default judgment in her favor.”

Tucker’s disappearance raises questions about his legal strategy. Avoiding service won’t make the issue go away.

For now, his whereabouts remain unknown. It’s unclear whether he is deliberately avoiding service or if something else is at play.
