OU Softball DISRESPECTED in Pre-Season Polls

As the college softball season approaches, the Oklahoma Sooners find themselves in a somewhat unfamiliar position. Traditionally a powerhouse in the sport, Oklahoma has been a dominant force in recent years, culminating in four consecutive National Championships. However, this year, their roster has undergone significant changes, leading to a shift in their preseason ranking.

Ranked at No. 3 in the Preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, the Sooners are not at the top spot for the first time since 2021, beginning the season as the fourth-ranked team. Their rivals, Texas and Florida, hold the top two positions, having been defeated by the Sooners in the Women’s College World Series last season.

The departure of key players, including the greatest softball class in the history of the sport, has prompted Oklahoma to rebuild. Despite this, the team remains optimistic, with sophomores Ella Parker and Kasidi Pickering expected to step up alongside senior Cydney Sanders.

Coach Gasso has made strategic moves during the offseason, securing transfers and recruiting talented new players to bolster the team’s lineup. Notably, Sophia Bordi, the No. 1 pitcher in the 2025 class, will be joining the Sooners earlier than expected, adding strength to their pitching rotation.

In addition to their ESPN.com/USA Softball ranking, Oklahoma also holds the third position in the Softball America and D1 softball preseason Polls. Looking ahead to the season, the Sooners face tough competition from the likes of Texas A&M, Duke, and LSU in what promises to be an exciting year for college softball.

With a mix of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, Oklahoma aims to overcome the challenges of a revamped roster and continue their legacy of excellence on the softball field. Stay tuned for the upcoming NCAA softball season to witness the Sooners’ quest for another shot at glory.
