Multiple Teams Express Interest In Former New York Mets Star

The New York Mets’ promising run to the World Series in 2015 gave hope for sustained success, but injuries and setbacks hindered their long-term prospects.

Key players like Zack Wheeler, Jacob deGrom, and Noah Syndergaard were expected to anchor the team’s pitching staff, but injuries took a toll.

Syndergaard, in particular, showed star potential despite battling injuries, boasting a 3.03 ERA in 2018 and a 4.28 ERA in 2019. Unfortunately, Tommy John surgery sidelined him for the entire 2020 season, with only two starts in 2021.

In 2022, the Mets extended an offer, but Syndergaard opted for a one-year, $21 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, later traded to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Despite a promising start, Syndergaard struggled in 2023, posting a 7.16 ERA with the Los Angeles Dodgers and a 5.40 after joining the Cleveland Guardians, ultimately being released.

However, there’s renewed interest in the right-handed pitcher in the free-agent market, with the New York Yankees among about 15 teams monitoring his progress.

“Yankees are among about 15 teams that have gone to watch one of Noah Syndergaard’s pen sessions. Their interest level is unknown but he was said to be in the mid-90s,” Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported.

While it’s uncertain how the Yankees might utilize him, Syndergaard could secure a spot on an MLB roster for the 2024 season, marking a potential comeback for the former Mets star.
