MLB Team Contemplating Multiple Seasons At Triple A Stadiums

After the 2024 MLB season wraps up, the Oakland Athletics will bid farewell to the Oakland Coliseum, their long-standing home. With their move to Las Vegas not scheduled until 2028, the A’s find themselves in need of a temporary residence.

In a recent development reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Athletics owner John Fisher and president Dave Kaval embarked on a tour of a Triple-A ballpark this Thursday.

Their destination was Sutter Health Park, located in Sacramento, California, and serving as the home turf for the River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

Additionally, per the same report, the Athletics are planning a visit to Smith’s Ballpark, the domicile of the Salt Lake Bees, a Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

While no official agreement is in place as of now, all signs point to the Athletics playing their games at a minor league ballpark during the period from 2025 to 2027.

The urgency in the Athletics’ approach is well-founded. Their stadium plans must receive approval from both the MLB and the MLBPA. Meeting the MLB’s guidelines for utilizing a Triple-A ballpark will be crucial to making this transition possible.

The Oakland Athletics are coming off a challenging season in which they posted a record of 50-112, underlining the importance of a fresh start in a new home.
