MLB Star Caught On Camera Hurling Slur At Fan

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran issued an apology on Sunday after he used a homophobic slur directed at a fan during the team’s 10-2 defeat to the Houston Astros at Fenway Park.

Duran described the slur as a “truly horrific word” and expressed deep remorse for his actions.

The slur was captured loud and clear on NESN’s broadcast of the game.

“During tonight’s game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan,” Duran said in a statement. “I feel terrible knowing how many people I have offended and disappointed.

“I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly, to the entire LGBTQ community. Our young fans should look up to me as a role model, but tonight, I failed in that regard.

“I will take this opportunity to educate myself and my teammates and work on becoming a better person.”

The incident occurred during Duran’s plate appearance in the sixth inning when he was taunted by a fan.

After telling the fan to “shut up,” Duran used the slur, which was clearly captured on the NESN broadcast of the game.

In response, the Red Sox released a statement addressing the situation: “The Red Sox spoke with Jarren immediately after the game. We support Jarren’s apology and extend it to our fans, especially those in the LGBTQ community.

“We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment at Fenway Park and will continue to educate our players, coaches, and staff on the importance of inclusivity.”

The Red Sox did not mention any potential disciplinary actions against Duran in their statement.

Given that similar incidents in the past have led to player suspensions, it remains to be seen how the team and Major League Baseball will address the situation moving forward.

For the season, Duran is batting .291 with 14 home runs, 58 RBIs and a .853 OPS. He’s a vital player on the playoff-hopeful Red Sox who stand at 61-55 as we near the stretch run of the season.
