The 2024 season was nothing short of a disaster for the Florida State Seminoles, who stumbled to a 2-10 finish despite entering the year with playoff expectations.
Facing mounting pressure to turn the program around, the Seminoles have officially landed their top target in the transfer portal: quarterback Thomas Castellanos.
Florida State struggled under center last season, rotating between D.J. Uiagalelei, Brock Glenn, and Luke Kromenhoek, none of whom found consistent success.
Uiagalelei has since exhausted his NCAA eligibility, and Kromenhoek is reportedly entering the transfer portal, leaving the Seminoles with a glaring need at quarterback.
That urgency has steered Florida State toward Castellanos, a Boston College Eagles quarterback who recently entered the transfer portal.
Reports suggested all along that the Seminoles were making an all-out effort to land him … Sure enough, they did.
Castellanos began his college career with the UCF Knights in 2022, playing under then-head coach Gus Malzahn.
After transferring to Boston College, he played for head coach Bill O’Brien, but his 2024 season proved tumultuous.
Castellanos showcased flashes of talent, throwing for 1,366 yards and 18 touchdowns over eight games, but was ultimately benched before the season ended.
Ironically, one of his best performances came against Florida State.
Now, Castellanos will have a fresh opportunity to shine in Tallahassee, where Florida Stateās offensive coordinator – none other than Gus Malzahn – is eager to reunite with his former quarterback.
Though Castellanosā time with Boston College ended on a very sour note, the Seminolesā overtures will provide him the chance to reboot his career and spearhead the rebuilding of a once-proud program.
What are your thoughts on Florida State landing Castellanos?
After the Uiagalelei nightmare, should fans trust that Norvell made the right call to put all of his eggs in the Castellanos basket???
