Mets Show Interest in All-Star Slugger Jorge Soler for Power Boost

The New York Mets are actively exploring impactful additions to their lineup, and one player on their radar is the All-Star power-hitter Jorge Soler, according to MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided. While Murray is uncertain about the Mets’ current involvement with Soler, he views the designated hitter as a fitting addition to the team due to their specific need for a DH.

Soler recently concluded an impressive All-Star season with the Miami Marlins, boasting a .250/.341/.512 slash line, a formidable .853 OPS, 36 home runs, and 75 RBIs. Following this stellar performance, Soler opted out of his contract with Miami to enter free agency, aiming to capitalize on his remarkable campaign.

Heading into his age-32 season in 2024, Soler could provide the Mets with the power boost they’ve been seeking, complementing first baseman Pete Alonso and shortstop Francisco Lindor. With a career-high of 48 homers in a single season (achieved with the Kansas City Royals in 2019) and a World Series MVP title from the Atlanta Braves’ 2021 championship run, Soler brings a proven track record of offensive prowess.

However, Soler’s defensive limitations, especially in the outfield, might confine him primarily to the role of a designated hitter. Despite this drawback, the Mets recognize the need for an additional offensive force. Even though David Stearns, the president of baseball operations, stated that another bat wasn’t “essential,” the potential addition of Soler could undoubtedly bolster the Mets’ lineup and elevate their offensive capabilities in Queens.
