Olivia Dunne announced this week a final decision on her gymnastics career.
The All-American gymnast from New Jersey wrapped up her final college season this month. Dunne, who helped LSU win a national championship in 2024, said goodbye to the sport she’s competed in for roughly two decades of her life. Dunne has made it clear that she will not be pursuing gymnastics moving forward, in the professional or Olympics space.
Dunne said an official goodbye to gymnastics in a video posted on social media.
The New Jersey native teared up as she watched some of the best moments from her career in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
“Thank you gymnastics,” she wrote.
Dunne, who has become one of the most followed female athletes in college sports, is coming off a semifinal round loss in the NCAA Tournament. LSU, a No. 1 seed, was upset ahead of the national championship round.
The fifth-year senior was an All-American as a freshman on the uneven bars. She scored a 9.000 in the category at the national championships. Dunne went on to become a part-time contributor for the LSU Tigers in the following seasons, dealing with a variety of injuries.
Dunne had a lot going on off of the gymnastics mat, too. She built up a multi-million followers count on X, Instagram and TikTok. Dunne has even appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue a couple of times. Dunne is expected to return in the 2025 edition later this spring.
She competed in LSU’s first four meets of the 2024-25 seaosn before injuring her knee. Dunne was ultimately diagnosed with an avulsion fracture in her kneecap. She was unable to compete in the SEC Championships and NCAA Championships.
Now, she’ll move on to the next stage of her life.
Dunne is expected to continue to pursue modeling, influencing and more.
She’s dating Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher Paul Skenes.
