Lightning-Rod Coach Unleashes Hell On NCAA

Spring football is in full swing across the country, but this year, it comes with a significant change.

The NCAA has banned joint spring practices, and Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy isn’t happy about it.

Gundy, known for his outspoken nature, didn’t hold back when asked about the decision.

“I’ll be honest with you, I’m not going to waste my time on who’s going to determine what the rules are anymore because essentially there’s not really enough of them to follow. And I’m not sure how they have grounds to say you can’t do it,” Gundy said. “Like if somebody just goes and does it, what are they going to do to them?”

Gundy’s frustration suggests he might be willing to push back against the ruling, but the NCAA could hand out significant penalties to programs that violate the rule, potentially including fines or other disciplinary action.

One joint practice Gundy would love to see? Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma.

The historic Bedlam rivalry remains fierce even though the Sooners have moved on to the SEC, and a spring practice matchup would certainly generate excitement. However, unless the NCAA reverses its stance, that possibility remains off the table.

After a disappointing 3-9 season in 2024, Gundy and the Cowboys are looking to return to form.

It was the worst record of his 20-year tenure and a stark contrast to 2023, when Oklahoma State won 10 games and reached the Big 12 Championship Game before falling to Texas.

Despite the loss, the Cowboys finished strong, defeating Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl. Under Gundy, Oklahoma State has been a consistent contender, with eight 10-win seasons and a career record of 169-88.

While Gundy is focused on returning to Big 12 prominence, his outspoken frustration with the NCAA highlights a larger conversation about coaching autonomy and how college football’s governing body enforces its rules.

Whether the NCAA will reconsider its stance – or if a program will challenge it – remains to be seen.

Needless to say, this is far from the only issue the NCAA is dealing with. And we all know they aren’t too popular these days.

What are your thoughts on Gundy’s comments???
