Kirk Herbstreit Shocks CFB World With Latest Rankings

Following an action-packed weekend of college football, filled with standout performances and a few letdowns, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit revealed his top-performing teams from Week 1.

With games stretching from Thursday to Monday, Herbstreit selected seven standout teams that impressed him the most during the opening weekend of the season.

His top-7 most impressive teams consisted of the following…

#1. USC Trojans

#2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

#3. Miami Hurricanes

#4. Penn State Nittany Lions

#5. Georgia Bulldogs

#6. Boston College Eagles

#7. Vanderbilt Commodores

All seven teams secured significant victories throughout the weekend.

Vanderbilt kicked things off by stunning Virginia Tech in overtime. Entering the game as heavy underdogs, the Commodores defied expectations, pulling off an incredible win.

While Vanderbilt was celebrating their victory, Georgia was making a statement of their own, crushing Clemson 34-3. The Bulldogs dominated in the second half, leaving no doubt about their superiority.

Penn State also delivered a commanding performance despite a weather delay in Morgantown. The Nittany Lions, led by quarterback Drew Allar, were in control on both sides of the ball, comfortably defeating West Virginia.

Miami joined the list of dominant teams, delivering a crushing 41-17 win over Florida. The Hurricanes overwhelmed the Gators, who have a lot of work to do after such an ultra-disappointing showing.

Notre Dame followed up with a major road victory over Texas A&M in a raucous College Station, capping off a strong Saturday.

USC, with Miller Moss at the helm, pulled off a thrilling comeback against LSU, rallying in the fourth quarter to secure the win over Brian Kelly’s Tigers.

Lastly, Boston College wrapped up the weekend by dismantling a horrifically-underperforming Florida State team, who amazingly fell to 0-2 on the early season.

While some fans are surprised by Herbie’s rankings, it’s important to remember that these are his “top performing teams” from Week 1 – not who he thinks are the actual BEST teams.

What are your thoughts on the rankings?

Who do YOU think were the most impressive teams from Week 1?
