Jeremiah Smith Will Leave Ohio State for Oregon

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (4) celebrates a first down catch during the second half of the College Football Playoff quarterfinal against the Oregon Ducks at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. on Jan. 1, 2025. Ohio State won 41-21.

When the thought of Jeremiah Smith leaving Ohio State first popped into my head, I completely ignored it because it seemed crazy. I’ll assume many of you are in that same state and are ready to say that this prediction is the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard. But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Due to his past success, love from NFL scouts and NIL evaluation, I expect Smith to transfer to the Oregon Ducks in 2025.

This is a PREDICTION, not a REPORT

Leaving Ohio State

It seems crazy to think about, but Smith has already left behind an insane legacy at Ohio State after one year. As a freshman, Smith caught 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns. That’s a legendary season that already tops Julio Jones in receiving yards. Keep in mind Jones was a junior during that season as well. To cap it all off, Smith helped the Buckeyes win a National Championship. What more does Smith really have to prove or even accomplish at Ohio State?

Joining the Oregon Ducks

Right now, Ohio State is on top of the college football world, but Oregon isn’t too far behind. While the Buckeyes beat the Ducks in the college football playoffs, the Ducks took them down in the regular season. Of course, I would rather play for Ohio State, but the drop isn’t too steep and the competition is very similar.

What is next for the Ohio State Buckeyes After Winning the National Championship?

In a recent report from Pete Nakos, “Buckeyes star Jeremiah Smith has received an offer in excess of $4.5 million to enter the transfer portal”. The article goes on to say that “Smith later responded to the NIL reports on social media, agreeing with a fan denying OSU transfer rumors.” I’m not so sure the $4.5 million was from the Ducks and if so, it’s not the most they’d be willing to offer.

These numbers aren’t exact, but the Ducks have $969 million dollars in total NIL efforts, according to 247 Sports. Phil Knight wants a national championship and knows Smith could help them get there. Don’t be surprised if he shocks the college football landscape with an unheard-of offer that Smith can’t turn down.

The last reason Smith would transfer goes back to what he has left to prove. Not much. In fact, in a post from College Football Network, he went first overall. As long as Smith doesn’t get hurt, I see him as a lock for a top-five pick in the NFL Draft. Again, my prediction is that Knight will give Smith an offer he can’t refuse in order to get him to join the Ducks.
