At one point, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was seen as a likely first-round pick.

His electric performance in the Crimson Tide’s thrilling win over Georgia – arguably the highlight of his college career – had scouts buzzing about his potential.

But after many inconsistent stretches during the season and a pre-draft process that raised a few questions, Milroe’s stock seemed to cool off.

The powers that be in the NFL, however, might see things differently.

According to reports, Milroe has officially accepted an invitation to attend the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay – an indication that his first-round hopes may still be very much alive.

For context, the league doesn’t hand out these invites lightly.

Only a select group of prospects are brought to the draft site, and it’s typically reserved for players the NFL is confident will hear their name called on opening night.

Having someone sit through the emotional rollercoaster of draft night in the green room – only to go undrafted in the first round – creates a media frenzy the league usually tries to avoid.

Milroe accepting the invite suggests there’s legitimate belief he’ll come off the board early.

Two AFC North teams – the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers – have been repeatedly linked to Milroe throughout the pre-draft cycle.

Cleveland, who holds the No. 2 overall pick, is unlikely to use that selection on Milroe. However, speculation has been growing that they could trade back into the first round if they believe he’s their quarterback of the future.

“‘Hey, Cleveland, the Giants, whichever of you guys don’t take quarterbacks at the top, you wanna come back in and still get one? We’re open for business and we’ll go ahead and get some of those picks in that second-round range that we don’t currently possess,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, might be even more serious.

According to FS1’s Colin Cowherd, there’s considerable chatter around the Steelers targeting Milroe at No. 21 overall.

“I talked to an NFL exec last night, very well-connected, and this is a keep your head on a swivel, Aaron Rodgers. I’m told the Steelers really like Jalen Milroe, 21st pick, first round. So if Aaron signs with Pittsburgh, it’s going to become Kirk Cousins,” Cowherd said on FS1’s The Herd.

While this time of year is known for rampant speculation and smokescreens, the league’s decision to invite Milroe – and his willingness to attend – adds real weight to the whispers.

If Milroe does go in the first round, it’ll be a testament to his dynamic skill set and elite athleticism.
