If FSU Can Get Through UNC, They’ll Have the ACC Locked Down

Alright, let’s break down what’s brewing in the college football world as we look ahead to the 2025 season. The dust has settled from the winter transfer portal and early signing period, and the coaching carousel has mostly stopped spinning. But before we get to the fall, we’ve got spring ball and the spring transfer window, plus this whole new revenue-sharing model that’s set to change the game yet again. It’s going to be a wild ride, and these are the seven teams I’ve got my eye on.

First up, we have Florida State. After a tough 2024 season, where they went 2-10, Mike Norvell’s record in Tallahassee is a bit of a mixed bag. He’s got three losing seasons compared to just two winning ones since taking the helm. Following a stellar 13-1 run in 2023, last year was a significant downturn, with only one win against a Power 4 opponent.

The Seminoles are trying to turn things around by bringing in transfer quarterback Thomas Castellanos from Boston College, who actually caused them some real problems in their ’24 opener. They’ve also added some beef to their offensive line and some new targets at wide receiver. The offense will also have a new voice with former UCF head coach Gus Malzahn calling the plays. Of course, the portal giveth and taketh away, and FSU did lose some key guys on the defensive line.

While it’s fair to expect a significant rebound from last season’s struggles, their schedule is no cakewalk. They kick off the year against Alabama, host Miami, and later have road trips to Clemson and Florida. Simply making it to a bowl game might ease some concerns, especially with Norvell’s recent contract extension and the higher expectations at FSU. But let’s be real, the Seminoles are aiming for more than just a bowl game. They’re looking to get back to being a force in college football.
